Rome Education Program

The Rome Foundation sponsors several education programs as part of our mission

Education Committee
The Rome Education Committee was formed by the Rome Foundation Board at the December 2007 strategic planning meeting to educate physicians and other health care providers about functional GI disorders (FGIDs) through a variety of approaches.


The Rome Foundation introduces New Clinical Tool for Diagnosis of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders in The American Journal of Gastroenterology. Functional GI Disorders Are Common, Comprise about 40 percent of GI Diagnoses. For information on the clinical algorithms project, click here.


The Rome Foundation has developed a comprehensive educational computer based learning program containing almost 800 slides with notes and references covering the information provided in the Rome III book. Designed by the world's leading experts in functional GI disorders, the program allows for self-learning and presentations using the most up-to-date information. A new book titled Understanding the Irritable Gut: The Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders has been written by Board member W. Grant Thompson, edited by Doug Drossman, and published by Rome Foundation. The book is targeted to those involved with functional GI disorders, combining scientific evidence with a practical approach and clinical experience. For the first time, Rome Foundation information of the functional GI disorders is presented in an easy to read, non-technical format - ideal for non-gastroenterology health care professionals, students, educated patients, and the general public.


Lecture Programs
The Rome Foundation sponsors a variety of lectures and professional meetings, including the 3rd Annual Rome-AGA Lectureship by Erwin G. Zoetendal, PhD at Digestive Disease Week in New Orleans, Lousiana. For more information, click here.
